History Of the Church

Calvary Temple Church was founded upon God, through much fervent prayer, on September 7, 1962. It began at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Roger Knight in Virginia Beach. At this meeting place Reverend Lamar Sentell was called to be the Pastor. As the congregation grew, space was rented at Kempsville Elementary School.  The present facility was completed in April 1965.  The building was paid off and the note was burned December 24, 1978.

Many people have been ministered to through this church, pastors and congregation.  Some were called to be ministers.  God continues to bless us with new people coming into our midst and new and exciting ministries.  We are called by God to teach, train, disciple and equip the next generation's ministers as well as the congregation at large. 

As a halfway house to heaven, we all have difficulties with sin, temptation and difficulties in life.  Here at Calvary Temple Baptist Church, we rely upon each other, and the help of the Holy spirit, to overcome and become better citizens of God's Kingdom.
